A Cold Morning on the Lake
When we were at Paris Landing State Park on Kentucky Lake for our church’s couples retreat, it was a cold morning, as you can tell by the snow on the ground off in the distance. But the snow isn’t the only clue to the cold in this photo.
See those ripples in the lake water in the foreground? Those weren’t gently moving ripples. No, those ripples were actually quite still, because they were ice ripples where the water had frozen. The temperatures were starting to warm up, which meant that the ice was melting, but it was still there that morning.
Unfortunately, the ice wasn’t thick enough for ice skating, or even for ice fishing or ice walking. And fortunately, we were smart enough not to try to get out on it, because that would have been rather stupid. And cold. And since we were already cold to begin with, we decided to avoid doing something that would only make us colder. Because you can call us crazy, but we like to keep the feeling in our extremities, after all.
Despite the cold, we did enjoy walking around the lake, seeing the ice and snow, and the thawed parts, too.
And if you weren’t aware, Paris Landing and Kentucky Lake are in Tennessee. Go figure.
