2022 Disney Cruise Report Day 2 - Morning at Sea

It is the start of a new day in 2022 Disney Cruise Trip Report, as we get to spend a full day at sea on the Disney Fantasy!

We are never ones to sleep very late on a cruise vacation because there is just too much to do. My phone alarm, which is a recording of a Disney Cruise ship horn playing “When You Wish Upon a Star”, woke us up at 7:00 AM. We got up and got ready for the day. We went out to our verandah, and my parents were there on the other side of the still-unopened divider. I was hoping those dividers could be open as the day went on (they were, by the way). It was a beautiful, sunny morning outside, much different from the clouds of the tropical storm on the previous day. And the water was smoother, too.

Where we came from…

…and where we were going! Sea as far as you can see!

I turned on the television in our room to see the Bridge Report channel, which I love checking out when we are cruising. It shows everything including where we are, how far we have gone, how far to our next port, the temperature, and even the sea depth. I was interested to see that we were still heading toward Cuba, which was pretty cool.

We headed up to breakfast at Cabanas around 9:00, after determining that the Luttrells must have already gone up there. With the help of some text messages through the Disney Cruise Line app, we found the Luttrells once we got there, and we all had an enjoyable breakfast. I started with my standard cruise breakfast of a Mickey waffle, a cinnamon roll, and some fresh pineapple and grapes. Because you have to balance out the sweets with some fruit, right? And some orange juice, too.

This was not just any day, it was Sunday. And because we all go to church together back home, we had our own church service in our stateroom, because it was in the middle of all three rooms. All of us Burnses had brought some prepackaged communion supplies from our home congregation, but Jennifer had forgotten theirs, so they had gotten some crackers and juice from a convenience store on their way to the port. We all had a good laugh when they brought in one of the room trays with crackers and juice cups since they had their own communion tray to pass. We sang some songs, and our “sermon” and communion thoughts were all rolled into one, and then we sang some more songs before having our closing prayer. And with that, the first worship service of the Fantasy Church of Christ had concluded. Please greet your neighbor and make sure they feel welcome!

We had seen that there were some photo opportunities up on Deck 12, so we decided to put our unlimited photo packages to good use. We went and found the photographers. One would include characters in the photos, although we could not see them, and another used a life ring prop for us to pose with. One of the photographers said he remembered us. I guess we make an impression everywhere we go. He asked if we remembered him, as he had taken our photo with the Minnie statue in the lobby the night before. He put his hands over his face to make a mask to see if that helped us remember, which got a big laugh from us. That photographer was Rodrigo, and we would run into him several more times over the course of the cruise.

I’m glad we didn’t have to throw that float overboard to save anyone!

Yes, our salutes were not quite proper, but we also didn’t want to block our neighbor with our elbows!

We Burnses got a drink from the soft drink fountain on Deck 11 near the pools, and we watched just a bit of Inside Out on the Funnel Vision screen while we enjoyed our drinks. We also strolled around the ship a bit, spending some time with my parents sitting in the chairs at the front of the ship in the adults-only area on Deck 13. It was nice that we were all over 18 on this cruise. And it was quite windy while we were out there so I went back behind the glass after having all of the wind I wanted for a while. But then it was time for some fun in the sun on our day at sea.

Just hanging out on a day at sea!

We went to our rooms and changed into our swimwear, and Jaylin decided to stay in the room and watch some of Age of Ultron for a while. The rest of us Burnses headed back to the Satellite Falls area, which is where we had been sitting before, to enjoy the fountain pool there. Except that the fountain was turned off, for whatever reason. It was still pretty windy, and we wondered if the wind was the reason that the fountain was off. But either way, the water was still enjoyable, and the wind did not bother us at all.

Eventually, we got hungry for lunch, as usually happens around lunchtime. We Burnses are quite regular eaters, after all. So we headed to Flo’s. I had a couple of pieces of pizza because you can almost never go wrong with pizza. This time was no exception, as the pizza was delicious as always. We also went around the corner to get some soft serve ice cream, and I got chocolate mango swirl. I could actually taste the mango more than the chocolate, but it was still good.

Yes, I take photos of interesting restroom mirrors. But I always make sure no one else is in the restroom first.

We walked around the Deck 4 Promenade, enjoying the views of the water and the waves, which were much smaller than the tropical storm waves of the previous day. And it was still beautiful and sunny, too.  We spent some of the afternoon shopping, which really meant just walking through the shops. One shop was giving out free charms for a charm bracelet that they wanted you to buy, so we each got a free charm, although I later gave mine away.

As we sailed along, we passed relatively close to Havana, Cuba. Captain Daniele had mentioned that in his lunchtime announcement. And since we had not actually been to Cuba before, it was cool to see it from a distance as we sailed past. Interestingly, we never did actually see Captain Daniele during our cruise, but we only heard him make announcements. I wondered if that was due to COVID restrictions to try to keep him healthy since his job was rather essential. In his announcement, Captain Daniele also let us know that at 2:00 AM the next morning, the ship’s clock would be set back an hour since we were going from the Eastern Time Zone to the Central Time Zone. And unless we wanted to be early for everything, we should set our clocks and watches back an hour, too.

Hello, Havana! Do you think they saw me waving at them?
