2022 Disney Cruise Report Day 2 - Evening at Sea

As the 2022 Disney Cruise Trip Report continues, we get to enjoy a nice evening at sea!

Sunday, June 5 (Continued)

Next, Mom, Laura, and I went to another craft session, this time in The Tube, which is meant to remind you of the London Subway. It doesn’t really remind me of that, because I have never been to the London Subway, but I could figure out what the reference was. Anyway, our craft for this day was to be a paper model of the ship. It turned out to be much easier than Mickey and Minnie the day before. Plus, we were given glue sticks instead of glue dots, so that was easier to work with, too.

We were actually early to the craft time (imagine that!), so we took a stroll around the Deck 4 Promenade to pass the time.

We were all pleased with our creations, and we took them back to our rooms. Mine ended up on a shelf with Mickey, while Laura’s ended up on a shelf with Minnie. Our little craft section of our little room.

While we were there in our rooms, we got dressed for our evening. This evening was Formal Night, and we had brought clothes to dress appropriately. We did not go fully formal with tuxedos and evening gowns, but Laura had a somewhat formal dress, and I had a coat and bow tie. A Mickey Mouse bow tie, of course. I thought the Mickey tie was a nice touch for our Disney Cruise. But apparently, everyone was so used to seeing Mickey everywhere that no one mentioned it the entire evening. Oh well.

This evening was also the first stage show in the Walt Disney Theatre, so we headed that way to see Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular. The Luttrells had gotten there a few minutes before us and had gotten seats for all of us near the front. We were in the side section, but I was guessing we could still see pretty well. After an introduction and some notes about the next day by Cruise Director Anthony, including a reminder to set our clocks back an hour before going to bed, the show started.

And it was a great show, too. Lots of great performances, especially by the Genie and Iago, who was a well-done puppet. And the magic carpet was good, too. It was interesting to see how everything was interpreted for the stage, too. One notable omission was Abu, who was not in the show at all. One of the Genie’s quick lines referenced that, as he ended the line with, “#wheresthemonkey?” Lots of laugh-out-loud moments, lots of great performances, and some highly entertained audience members when it was all over. This was the first cruise that we had been on in quite a while that did not have the Golden Mickeys or Villains Tonight shows, and it was a nice change.

Of course, we couldn’t let Formal Night go by without some photos. So we visited the photo backdrop locations to get our photos taken by the ship photographers. And once again, we had lots and lots of photos taken. We also went outside on the Deck 4 Promenade for a few sunset photos, too, because it was still a lovely evening at sea.

How many formal night photos are too many? Because we have lots!

Dinner was at Animator’s Palate. We were shown to our table, where Randy and Yuni soon greeted us. Yuni brought out the same drinks that we had gotten the night before, which was fine with everyone. Nolan came and spoke to us a few times during the night, too. We did not have a table close to one of the screens so that Crush the Turtle would talk to us later on, but that did not bother me all that much. It is entertaining, but I have heard most of the lines before. But it is still fun seeing him interact with other people. As my main course, I had Pennette Bolognese, which is pasta with meat sauce, and it was delicious. And for dessert, I had a Cookies ‘n’ Cream Sundae, which was to be the first of many sundaes for me. Good food with good people!

Kaitlyn and John, who apparently did not know I was taking their photo. And I did not get photos of Laura or Mom and Dad because they were on the same side of the table as me.

After dinner, Laura and I headed back to The Tube for some entertainment, the same place where we had done the ship craft earlier in the day. We were met there a little later by Jaylin and all of the Luttrells, who had gone to change clothes before coming. 

When Laura and I arrived, they had already started the Snippets game show. There were two teams, and one contestant from each team would go against each other. Once a snippet of a song was played, there was a race to the buzzer to name the song. It was fun to watch, and I did not know all of the songs, either. The hostess kept things lively as well, and it was all in good fun.

Next up in The Tube was a performance by Moonshot, the a cappella singing group who had performed on the main stage the previous night. They were good, even though I did not know many of their songs, which made me feel just a little old.

After that was the reason that we were there, the Silent Dance Party. We had heard about these before, so we wanted to see it for ourselves. Everyone is given a pair of headphones which receive three channels of music, noted by the color of the lights on the headphones. You put on your headphones, select your music, and dance. Everyone is hearing different music, everyone is dancing to their own thing. The adults in our group did not get any headphones, which was fine. For a while, the kids in our group did not get any, either, but they finally gave in and got some and joined in the party while we watched. And it was hilarious! Everyone was dancing to their own thing for a while. Eventually, someone would call out, “Everyone go to red!” And then everyone would be dancing to the same thing for a while. At other times, different groups would start singing along to the song that they were hearing, which of course those of us without headphones couldn’t hear, which made it even more entertaining. And at one point there was a conga line with just about everyone in the club, which was great to watch as it snaked its way past us. We were all sufficiently entertained!

A photo can’t do justice to the Silent Dance Party, so I hope you get to see it for yourself one day. Jaylin and Kyle are out there in the photo, by the way.

But then the kids had danced themselves out, and we were all getting tired from the long but fun day at sea. So we headed up to our rooms for the night. In our room, Yuni had left a towel bear on our bed, along with some more chocolates. We moved the bear off to his own shelf, because we hated to undo this creation, and then it was time for sleep. And we set our phone clocks back an hour, since they were not connected to any sort of cell service to do that automatically. No one had any trouble going to sleep, which is always the sign of a good day.
